WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy is a tool used to create suggestibility in the mind
allowing the individual to rid himself of inhibitions that may hold him back
in life. Hypnosis allows the individual to relax. In the process, tensions
and pressures of the day start to disappear. Through hypnosis, concentration
and mental alertness are heightened. You are never unconscious or in a sleep
state when you are hypnotized. Instead, you are more mentally alert and
your senses are more acute. The sounds around you may seem louder than usual
because your hearing becomes hypersensitive in the state of hypnosis. Hypnosis
is created by words. Words affect us to the point where they can make us
angry or sleepy or they can stimulate ego sensations in the body. We can
feel heaviness or lightness or extremes of heat or cold. Drowsiness and
relaxation often take place.
As a person enters the hypnotic state, certain physical changes start
to take place. The professional therapist is trained to look for these changes.
Your breathing will become deeper, more gentle and rhythmic. Your lips
and throat will become dry and you will have the urge to swallow. Your arms
and legs, in fact, your entire body will begin to feel heavier and more relaxed.
Your head will begin to drop and your eyelids will begin to flutter or blink
as you become drowsier.
During this state, the subconscious mind is reached and the therapist
begins to make suggestions for change. If you want to change a negative
personality trait to a positive one, suggestions are made which are more
readily accepted by your subconscious mind. Once the suggestions are made,
the therapist returns you gently to the state of full conscious awareness.
You feel mentally alert, completely refreshed, relaxed and stress free.
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a natural state of altered consciousness where you are
in a relaxed, calm state and are more readily able to accept positive suggestions
from the therapist in order to effect changes in your behavior.
IN HYPNOSIS, AM I ASLEEP?
No, you are not unconscious, but rather in a state of heightened
awareness, able to hear and respond to everything that is said and even participate
in the therapy.
CAN EVERYONE BE HYPNOTIZED?
Yes, virtually everyone of normal intelligence can be hypnotized.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET STUCK IN HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a natural state. You will end your session through guidance
from your therapist or end it naturally yourself. It is impossible to get
stuck in the hypnotic state.
CAN MY THERAPIST MAKE ME DO ANYTHING I DON’T WANT TO DO?
No, you are in complete control at all times and cannot be compelled
to do or say anything under hypnosis that is in conflict with your personal
and ethical standards or desires. And you won’t reveal your deep dark
secrets,
either.
HOW CAN HYPNOSIS HELP ME ACHIEVE MY GOALS?
Hypnosis can be used for a variety of reasons. Some people want
to quit smoking or lose weight naturally. Some need tools for dealing with
every day stress and anxiety. Many people turn to hypnosis to help them
recall information for an important test, to help them get a good night’s
sleep, to calm a fear or phobia. Many others use the power of suggestion
to enhance their self-esteem or self-confidence, to decrease debilitating
pain, to play better sports, to lower blood pressure or eliminate bad habits
such as nail biting or bed wetting.
With medical referral, hypnosis can help relieve a variety of symptoms
such as cough, runny nose, sneezing associated with allergies, increase hemoglobin
count, increase fertility, breast or penis enlargement or relieve migraines.
It is also helpful in anger management and relationship issues.
